What is a catchweight fight?

A catchweight fight is a bout in which the fighters agree to meet at a pre-determined weight that is between the standard weight classes. This type of fight often occurs when there is a significant size difference between the two fighters and they are unable or unwilling to meet at a weight class that would be fair for both competitors.

Catchweight fights can present a unique challenge for the fighters, as they must negotiate a weight that works for both parties and may have to adjust their training and dieting to reach the agreed-upon weight. This can sometimes lead to an advantage for one fighter over the other, depending on how well they are able to adjust to the catchweight.

These types of fights are not typically sanctioned by professional boxing or MMA organizations, and are more commonly seen in exhibition matches or non-title fights. However, catchweight fights can add an element of intrigue and unpredictability to a matchup, as the fighters are often testing their abilities against someone outside of their usual weight class.
